The Blueberry Patch

“Come and pick some fresh blueberries in a pleasant relaxing garden.”

History

The farm was originally part of the Awapuni Berry Gardens strawberry farm (established 1969) located on the outskirts of Palmy. When the owner retired in 1990, we purchased part of the block as a bare paddock.

Over the last 30 years, we raised our family here with space for occasional livestock and garden development.

Blueberries Start

The first small block of blueberries was planted in 1991. They are still growing today, so we knew we could grow them successfully. For several years, the berries from these plants were sold at local farmer’s markets in Feilding and Palmerston North.

Blueberries Now

In 2016, with the children grown up, we planned to make better use of the block by planting blueberries for the local Pick Your Own market. Today, we have two main types of blueberries, each with multiple varieties within themselves. This means the berries ripen for a harvest that spans right across the summer season, from early December to the end of March (weather and ripening-dependent). This ensures there is a steady supply of fresh berries – no need to stock-up all at once.

How it Works

You can bring your own containers which we will weigh, or you can use one of ours, a small bucket and eco-bag.

After you have finished picking, we will weigh the berries.

Payment can be by cash, eftpos or debit card, (no credit card or payWave sorry).
